Thai silk is a tradition that goes back at least one thousand years. It is not true, as one website claims, that "In fact Thai silk is an American brain storm of Mr. Thompson." Thai silk was already in place when the first Europeans came to Thailand. However, Jim Thompson does deserve credit for the return of traditional Thai silk which had nearly vanished because of the mass production of silk in Japan and China.

Hand-woven Thai silk is unique and special for many reasons. The primary reason is that everything is handmade. That means it comes from the very souls of the creators. It is not perfect machine woven silk like most people are used to because people are not machines and machines have no soul. Like people, hand-woven silk has tiny flaws here and there and it is a bit rougher than ultra smooth machine silk. Handmade silk has a homey quality to it that sets it apart from other fabric. Each piece is absolutely unique and it would be impossible to reproduce an exact copy. No cloning here!

Part of the beauty of hand-woven Thai silk is that it has a special shine to it that catches and reflects light. Because it is also hand dyed, there are very small variations in the colors that stand out as well. There's nothing like hand-woven Thai silk anywhere else in the world.
